Orvieto

Arrived about an hour ago. It's very hot down here - at one point it registered 34C on the car's thermometer.

We skirted round the top of Bologna (where the spaghetti dish comes from), and to the west of Florence, which is a very vast city: you certainly don't see the classical dome and the other lovely buildings from the motorway, that's for sure - just mile after mile of housing estates and industry!

It's easy to remember what hotel we are staying in here in little Orvieto, as it has the same name as the town...

To the front of the hotel is the main road and a freight railway line, and to the back is the motorway and a high-speed railway line! Talk about Stuck In The Middle With You!

My room is at the front, hence the picture of the hotel sign. Here's the rest of the view, showing the Little Red Car in the car park as well...

You can see the main road on this picture, and also what looks like a vineyard behind. I got another picture showing this...

Lovely view of the railway too!

It took a long time for the hotel room air conditioning to kick in as well. Had to resort to opening the window and closing the shutter at one point (bedtime could have been fun with the two railway lines, a main road and a motorway all nearby!), but it's working now and the window is shut again.

We are only here one night, breaking up what otherwise would have been a very long drive down to near Naples, where we'll be tomorrow and Friday.

See you then!
